GIVE-A-GIFT
Foster Youth Advocates for Over 70 Years
The Give-a-Gift Mission
Committed to improving the lives of foster youth in Sonoma County, Give-a-Gift has two initiatives: providing specifically requested gifts to over 250 children during the holiday season and awarding laptop computers to youth pursuing post-secondary education.
About the Give-a-Gift Program
For over 70 years, Give-a-Gift has asked community members to buy and wrap holiday gifts for foster children in need. Through the overwhelming generosity of donors and volunteers, this simple gesture of brightening the holidays for foster children has evolved into a robust program that positively impacts several hundred youth each year!
Originally a Sonoma County Medical Association Alliance program, Give-a-Gift has raised over $332,000 in the last 10 years to benefit foster children and youth identified through a partnership with the Sonoma County Human Services Department and other non-profit organizations.
Recently, Give-a-Gift partnered with local schools, colleges, and businesses to expand its mission.
Since 2007, the program has awarded 370 laptops to foster youth high school graduates pursuing higher education. Since 2019 new bikes and helmets have been given through the holiday gift program.
Give-a-Gift's advocacy for foster youth aligns flawlessly with the Valley of the Moon Children's Foundation's mission. This crucial combination of resources and access will benefit Sonoma County's foster children and youth.
