The Judy Welsh Foster Youth Transition Fund
VMCF, along with Gino and Tony Medeiros, are honored to establish The Judy Welsh Foster Youth Transition Fund in loving memory of Judy Welsh. This fund is a tribute to Judy’s enduring legacy and compassionate spirit, especially towards young adults transitioning from the foster care system into adulthood.
Judy Welsh's story is one of unwavering love and dedication.
In 1987, she embraced a 17-year-old foster child named Gino Medeiros, who endured years of trauma and abuse. Judy's commitment and unconditional love provided Gino with the support he needed to navigate the complexities of adulthood. As Gino recalls, "My mom understood that I needed more time to transition into adulthood. Her generosity and unconditional love were my guiding lights. Without her, I have no doubt that I would have been a sad statistic."
Their bond grew stronger with time, and Judy legally adopted Gino in a heartwarming culmination when he turned 50. This act, as Gino describes, provided him with a sense of closure and healing that he had not realized he still needed. Judy's battle with stage 4 metastatic ovarian cancer and her brief yet joyful marriage in her final days are testaments to her indomitable spirit.
